904L Stainless Steel Corrosion Resistance:

In the highly oxidized nitric acid, 904L has low corrosion resistance compared with the high alloying steel without molybdenum. Welding property:
Like ordinary stainless steel, 904L can be welded in a variety of welding ways. The most commonly used welding methods are manual arc welding or inert gas shielded welding, the electrode or wire metal is based on the components of the parent material and the purity is higher, and the content of molybdenum is higher than that of the parent material. It is generally not necessary to heat before welding, but in the cold outdoor operation, to avoid the condensation of water vapor, the joints or adjacent areas can be heated evenly. Note that the local temperature should not exceed 100 degrees so as not to cause carbon agglomeration and cause intergranular corrosion. Small wire energy, continuous and fast welding rate are used for welding. After welding, it is generally not required to heat treatment. If heat treatment is required, it must be heated to 1100~1150 and quickly cooled.
Machining property:
The machining characteristics of 904L are similar to that of other austenitic stainless steels, and there is a tendency of adhesion and process hardening during processing. It is necessary to use the front Angle cemented carbide cutting tool, and the equipment and process should be used to reduce the hardening of the machine. Slow cutting speed and feed amount should be avoided during cutting.
